Drawing inspiration from their combined love for traveling, Jaya Wadhawan selected Chamee & Palak's Kashmiri Yellow Lehenga for their fusion-filled wedding! The KYNAH team was so happy to hear that we were able to guide her seamlessly and that her outfit was even better than she had envisioned it! We wish these newly weds a lifetime of love, happiness, and continued explorations of the world with one another! As said by Jaya:
How was your experience shopping with KYNAH?
My experience with KYNAH was effortless. Our wedding had been postponed for 2 years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the initial outfit I chose for our sangeet in our initial location of Toronto, Canada was just not going to work for our now Miami location. After browsing for what felt like forever, I finally found something on the KYNAH website that fit exactly what I was looking for. When I reached out, the team communicated promptly and made it easy to have confidence in buying an outfit online. They assisted with customization and I had a perfectly fitted outfit in my hands earlier than anticipated.
What was it about the Kashmiri Yellow Lehenga that made you say “Yes!”?
Our wedding was a Hindu/Indian, Catholic/Cuban fusion weekend and I knew I wanted something bright and fun to wear in between the white catholic dress and my light pink hindu lehenga. The Kashmiri Yellow Lehenga had such intricate work on it that brought out pinks and blues which matched a family heirloom necklace I wore. Although the outfit was detailed, it was still light and airy allowing me to dance perform with my bridesmaids and all night long with our family and friends!
How did he propose? Tell us a little bit about your relationship.
Alejandro (Alex) and I met in medical school on the island of Grenada. Our relationship blossomed from the friendship we first had. We moved to many different cities across the United States to do our clinical rotations, graduated medical school together and celebrated the huge milestone by backpacking one month in Thailand and Vietnam. Our relationship turned into a long-distance relationship during residency where I was training in New York City and Alex was in Illinois.
I had just gotten off my overnight shift that morning and flew to Miami (Alex’s home city) to have a weekend celebrating Alex’s 30th birthday- not realizing he had other plans. Alex had completely surprised me at the rooftop of the Conrad Hotel when he got down on one knee and had a hidden photographer to capture the moment. The ocean scenery, blue skies and warm wind was perfect and resembled the Caribbean air- where it all first started. Now, 8 years together, we live in Illinois in our first home with our dog.
How did you start planning your wedding? What were the first steps?
Our first wedding was supposed to be in Toronto, Canada (where my family is) September 2020 but the world had other plans. Working in the medical field during a pandemic, we knew we wanted to postpone our celebrations until we felt it was the most safe for our family and friends. On our 3rd attempt, we decided to move it to Miami, Florida to have most of our events outdoors.
My best friend who happens to be my brother and man of honor was a huge part of the wedding planning process. It was a lot of his ideas and visions collaborated with our incredible vendors listed below that brought this amazing weekend together. Although the pandemic created many obstacles to have a celebration, Alex and I (and our families) are happy we followed through and got to celebrate our love with our closest family and friends!
What was your wedding/sangeet theme?
Miami meets Bollywood. We wanted to bring the bright colors of Miami where my husband is from and combine it with the sparkle and glam of Bollywood to present my South Asian background. This together created a beautiful, love-filled, fun weekend!
