Rain or shine, indoors or outdoors, KYNAH bride Ambika Markanday illuminated the space in our Nancy Lehenga. The KYNAH team was pleased to be a part of perfecting her intimate wedding ceremony! Congratulations to these newly weds and we wish them all love and happiness on their future endeavors!
How was your experience with KYNAH?
I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Aisha made everything so easy and was in constant communication throughout the whole process. I wanted to adapt the Nancy lehenga to add a dupatta instead of the overcoat - she designed it so that it matched the style and aesthetic of the lehenga perfectly. I was nervous ordering my bridal outfits online, but everything arrived on time, the quality was great, the fit was perfect and I felt gorgeous in it.
Why did you choose the Nancy Lehenga for your look?
I wanted something colorful, classic and elegant. The Nancy Lehenga stood
out to me because it was something I could look beautiful in but also something I could have fun, feel comfortable, and dance in! For my second look, I wanted something similar to the Katherine Lehenga. I discovered The Little Black Bow through KYNAH and I liked the idea of supporting different Indian designers. KYNAH was a great place to discover ones that catered to the modern Indian woman.
If you had to choose one moment from your wedding day, what would it be?
I can't possibly choose one moment! I think what made our wedding special is that we designed everything from the ground up ourselves. We didn't want a planner, we wanted to keep things intimate and beautiful, with small, personal touches throughout. Our friend Max organised all our wines. Our other friend Victor distilled 2 custom (mediterranean and Indian spiced flavored) gins especially for the wedding. My sister-in-law, Mikaela, designed gorgeous menus, seating cards, itineraries as well as custom tote bags for our guests. We bought all our flowers and decor from the local flower market. Tableware and candles were from IKEA and H&M. We even used air dried clay to design some of our own candle holders. It was a 3-day event and we wanted to keep things fun and untraditional - so we organized things like a wedding pub quiz, scavenger hunt, and dance parties that lasted well into the morning. Everything felt so unique and special.
What was the inspiration behind your wedding theme/aesthetic?
Our celebration was incredibly intimate - we had a guest list of 28 people, our closest friends and family. This allowed us to really play around with what we wanted to do. Our main events were spread across two days. The first day was Monsoon Wedding themed. We wanted lots of color, bright flowers, and beautiful lighting. We ate al fresco, and Almiral's private chef Gylian Wylie cooked us a beautiful family style Indian meal. For the second day we wanted it to be more subtle and romantic. It was raining so we had to improvise and set the scene indoors. Luckily Almiral has lots of stunning places to create beautiful spaces both outdoors and indoors. We wanted lots of candles, soft lighting and green and white classic florals running down the centers of the tables. We had a gorgeous Spanish feast by Gillian ending with the most beautiful wedding cake by Lisa's Cake Shop.
